SAN ANTONIO – The Raul Jimenez Dinner has been serving San Antonio for 38 years, and one volunteer has been there every year.
His name is Felix Dominguez, but to many, he's known as the "Ice Man."
Every year since 1979, Dominguez has been a volunteer for the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving dinner.
"I just went to Patricia Jimenez and I said, Do you need some volunteers?" Dominguez said. "She said, 'Yes.' And ever since then, I've been here."
Dominguez started as a greeter, but then, one year, he realized that help was needed to get the ice ready for the beverages.
"I saw that they needed some help in the ice, so I said, 'I'm going to handle this,'" Dominguez said.
From that point on, he was known as the "Ice Man."
Through the years, he has seen the number of volunteers go from 20 to 4,000, has made lasting relationships and has vivid memories of Raul Jimenez.
"He would always tell me, 'Just take it easy. Take it easy. Take your time,'" Dominguez said.
Dominguez now uses a wheelchair, but he said it doesn't slow him down, and he plans on being a part of the Raul Jimenez Dinner for the rest of his life.
"As long as God can give me," Dominguez said.
Doors open Thursday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center at 9 a.m. Food will be served from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
