1 killed, 2 hurt after head-on collision with suspected drunk driver

Alejandro Almazan charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault

SAN ANTONIO – A man is facing an intoxication manslaughter charge and two intoxication assault charges following a head-on collision that killed a woman and injured her passengers.

Authorities said 29-year-old Lizette Flores Corona was driving her silver Mitsubishi Outlander Sport in the eastbound lanes of Culebra Road when the driver of a green 2003 Chevrolet Suburban veered into her lane and hit her car head-on.

Corona was pronounced dead at the scene and her passengers were taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

Corona's husband, who was also in the car, said she leaves behind an 8-year-old son.

Authorities said the driver of the suburban, Alejandro Torres Almazan, was under the influence.

Late Sunday, the Bexar County Magistrate's Office confirmed that there was an ICE detainer on Almazan.
