Police arrest suspected con man

Victim told police he paid Mark Guerrero to build pond

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a suspected con man who they said preyed on elderly people. The latest case against Mark Guerrero, 54, has to do with an 80-year-old man who said he paid more than $2,000 to have a pond build in his front yard.

According to an arrest affidavit, the victim told police Guerrero came to him on two occasions in March, saying he needed the money to purchase materials and begin work. However, after turning over two separate checks to Guerrero, the victim said the work was never even started, the affidavit stated. The man said he attempted to contact Guerrero but he would not answer his calls, the affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated while police were investigating the case, they discovered Guerrero was also a suspect in several recent elderly thefts, and that he was out on bond at the time in connection with yet another elderly theft case. Criminal records also show Guerrero also has an arrest record that dates back to the 1980s, the affidavit stated.
