GONZALES, Texas – A man accused of murder was back on the streets of Gonzales days after his arrest. Friends of the victim are outraged and say the suspect's bond, set at $50,000, was far too low.
Dyron Green, 34, was murdered Monday morning. Police said Tyrone Mitchell, 36, shot him in the chest during an argument. Friends in mourning expected the process to be simple.
"At least let the man be buried, let his family and friends grieve first before you go and let that person loose," said Oscar Maldonado, a childhood friend of Green's.
In a town like Gonzales, Maldonado said it's entirely possible that the accused could face his victim's family. "You can run into anybody at anytime. It's not a big city like San Antonio," said Maldonado.
Many took to Facebook to express their disappointment as well. Over 70 comments were posted as of Wednesday night on a local newspaper's Facebook page.
The Gonzales Cannon's page had comments asking for justice for Green and for the accused to pay for his actions.
"I would expect what they would be giving is there condolences, not an outcry for justice," said Maldonado.
Gonzales County Sheriff Glen Sachtleben said he sympathizes with those upset and even expressed surprise over the bail amount.
Green's wife is expecting a child.
