Layaway angels visit Boerne Wal-Mart

$1,600 in kids gifts paid off

BOERNE, Texas – Boerne Wal-Mart's manager Stewart Adair couldn't believe what he saw in his store last Friday. "Just seeing it actually happen in the store is breath-taking," said Adair. "It goes a long way."

On the final day of the store's layaway program, they still had several outstanding balances. But then a few layaway angels walked in, asking how they could lend a hand.

"If there's anything they could help to make sure that some kids have a very good Christmas so there were some people and we had some accounts that they could help some kids in need," said Adair.

Those strangers paid off $1,600 worth of layaway items, all of them toys.

"The highest customer that came in to do a donation was up to $800 but there were multiple customers wanting to come in and help the families of Boerne," said Adair.

Those strangers that walked up to the layaway counter made a big impact helping 20 families put more presents under the tree nearly for free.

"Just the customers we have at Wal-Mart," Adair said. "They come in helping families in need. Families helping families that come in here everyday."

The store called all the lucky customers this past weekend and told them some angels stepped in. Adair's not sure who had the biggest smiles this weekend.

"I think more the customers that were paying off helping the families in need were really getting the enjoyment out of it but the end result, the other ones were really excited about taking home those presents knowing they could have a really good holiday season," he said.

Wal-Mart brought back its layaway program for electronics and toys this holiday season.
