Man steals Krispy Kreme truck, crashes into gas pump

Police: Man upset about losing job at Lackland

SAN ANTONIO – A man who was recently fired from his job stole a Krispy Kreme doughnut delivery truck and led officers on a short chase before crashing into a gas pump early Friday morning, police said.

The ordeal began around 2 a.m. Friday when the suspect returned to the commissary at Lackland Air Force Base to ask for his job back.

The man's ex-boss told him no, and that's when police said the man drove off in the doughnut truck while the driver was making a delivery at the commissary.

Officers spotted the truck at an apartment complex, and that's when suspect fled down Military Drive, police said.

The suspect was driving at speeds close to 100 mph, but the man eventually lost control of the truck near Timbercreek and crashed into a gas pump at a Shell convenience store, which erupted into flames, police said.

The truck kept going but finally came to a stop in a field, police said.

The driver lost consciousness for a short while, but tried to fight with officers while he was being taken into custody, police said.

The man was taken to University Hospital in an undetermined condition.

There was no immediate word on what charges the man will face.
