SAN ANTONIO – A deadly shooting at a North side apartment complex most likely was not a random act, according to San Antonio police officers at the scene.
Neighbors began calling 911 shortly before 2:30 a.m. Friday, saying that they heard gunshots at the Park at Walker's Ranch apartments in the 14500 block of Blanco Road.
When officers arrived, they found the body of a 38-year-old man, lying facedown in the parking lot of the gated complex. Police said he had been shot several times, including once in the head.
They said they also found the victim's wallet and vehicle in the parking lot.
Several hours later, as neighbors began to wake up and move about, many were surprised to see the parking lot roped off with yellow crime scene tape and the man's body lying in the middle.
"We've been living here and we've never had any kind of trouble. I mean, that's really scary that a murder happened here. That's crazy," said one woman who did not want to be identified. Like many of her neighbors, she slowly crept past the murder scene in her car, stopping to find out what happened from reporters.
"We never have any problems. There's never any noise," she said.
Officers at the scene said the dead man had been visiting his girlfriend who lives at the complex. They said it appears he was not the victim of random violence but may have been targeted specifically.
According to a police report, a witnesses reported seeing a man jump over a fence and drive away in a dark colored truck just after the gunshots rang out.
