SCHERTZ, Texas – She's married with two children and lives in a seemingly quiet, family-friendly neighborhood in Schertz. Yet, it wasn't too long ago when the woman, who calls herself "Lynn," led a life that couldn't have been more different.
Lynn spent about a month in 2009 working as a prostitute.
She said memories of that dark period in her life have come rushing back with the recent arrests of two men, Nathan Alderete, 22, and Justin May, 24.
Her troubles began, she said, when she ran into Alderete, an old classmate.
"I told him I needed money. I needed a job," Lynn said. "He said he knew of a way I could make a lot of money."
She said Alderete introduced her to May, who convinced her to work for him, selling her body to men. Desperate for cash, Lynn -- who was just 18 years old at the time -- agreed to do it.
"I didn't want to do it for a career or anything. It was just to make cash in a little bit of time," she said.
Lynn said she was promised big bucks on a regular basis, but rarely saw any of the money she generated.
That is the same claim made by two women in an affidavit that led to the arrests of Alderete and May. The affidavit stated that the women told police they answered an ad for "escorts" on an internet site called, "MocoSpace." They said they were told they could earn up to $1,000 per week.
The women also said the suspects would use racy ads on another website, called "Backpage.com," to attract clients, the affidavit stated.
Like those two women who told their story to police, Lynn said Alderete and May always made the arrangements. She said she would meet with customers in motel rooms, usually in the Medical Center area.
Every time she decided she'd had enough and wanted to quit, she said, May had a way of changing her mind. At one point, she was threatened with a gun.
"He always knew what to say to keep you from leaving or to make it sound like you would be making so much money," Lynn said.
She said she eventually called on her mother to rescue her from that lifestyle. Finally, it led to an emotional breakdown, she said.
Now, Lynn said she's glad to know Alderete and May will have to answer to a judge.
Both men have been charged with aggravated promotion of prostitution and trafficking of persons.
