BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and Bexar County's Department of Community Resources partnered to streamline the application process for the weatherization and utility assistance programs.
Residents applying for utility payment assistance and weatherization services through the Low Income Household Energy Assistance Program will have a more streamlined process requiring only one application.

Under an agreement signed by Bexar County and the AACOG, both programs will share the application and required documentation submitted by residents, eliminating duplication of effort for applicants.
The Bexar County Department of Community Resources provides utility assistance to qualified households in unincorporated Bexar County that have income within 125 percent of the Poverty Income Guideline set by the federal government.
INCOME REQUIREMENTS, APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Priority groups for assistance include the elderly (60 years or older), disabled (unable to engage in substantial employment for a period of 12 months or longer) and families with children 5 years of age or younger. The program is administered as funds are available.
The Weatherization Assistance Program, administered by AACOG, is designed to assist qualified applicants who have high energy consumption by evaluating the applicant's residence to determine if energy efficiency measures would significantly reduce the amount of energy consumed.
Qualified homes may receive energy conservation measures, such as attic and wall insulation, whole house air sealing, water conservation devices, repair or replacement of heating and cooling systems, or energy efficient appliances that will reduce the cost of utilities and improve the health and comfort of the home.

Applicants will need to provide a telephone number, full address and CPS account number.
Residents who are in danger of having their electricity disconnected should first contact CPS Energy to make pay arrangements by calling (210) 353-2222.
