Tornado Intercept Vehicle confronts vicious twister
The Tornado Intercept Vehicle, which was introduced to KSAT two years ago, recently drove directly into a twister in Kansas.
Sean Casey stopped by KSAT in 2011 to show Steve Browne and viewers the specially armored vehicle known as the TIV.
It took Casey 8 years of storm chasing to get the TIV into the path of a tornado with IMAX 3D cameras rolling.
He did it again Monday and got in the middle of a large EF-4 tornado in Kansas.
The TIV sustained some damage from the twister. The wind blew open a hatch and a door. It also tore apart their weather instruments.
But overall the TIV did well and stayed on the ground.
