On Monday morning, family members of murder victim Luis Cisneros packed a courtroom at the Cadena Reeves Justice Center, waiting for his suspected killer to show up in court.
Cisneros's body was found downtown in February 2007.
It's believed the 38-year-old father of three was heading home from work as a downtown chef when he was beaten, robbed, thrown over a bridge and left to die.
The case had gone cold, but his family was recently notified that a suspect was in custody.
Ramiro Benjamin De La Rosa, 27, a man who was already serving time at Guadalupe County Jail, was charged with the murder.
He was set to appear in court to make a plea in the case, but it was rescheduled at the last minute.
Family members of Cisneros said it's been a painful process but they are glad that they may soon have some closure.
"We just want to end this," said Cisneros' daughter, Priscilla Cisneros. "It's been a long six years and we want it to be over with so we can try to end this chapter of our lives and try to move forward."
"I want him to pay for what he did to my son," said Cisneros' mother, Anita Solis. "I want him to answer (the question,) 'Why did he have to kill him?' There was no reason for him to do that."
The Cisneros family was told De La Rosa will be in court later this week. They all plan to return to the courtroom to see him face to face.
"We're just ready to see him -- to put this to an end and for my dad to have justice," said Priscilla Cisneros.
