It was a beautiful Tuesday. Ken Patterson thought so much of the day he wanted to take his granddaughter fishing. Therein lies what was driving him crazy.
Patterson was ready to board a VIA bus with his granddaughter and her fishing pole, complete with a pink reel, but the operator told him he couldn't get on with the fishing pole.
"As long as the hook is off of it, what's the problem?" asked Patterson. "I mean, it's a fishing pole. It breaks down, you know? It's not dangerous for anybody."
Patterson was headed to Millers Pond. What was supposed to be some grandfather/granddaughter time turned into disappointment.
"She was like, 'Papa, I thought we were going fishing?' It brought tears to my eyes," said Patterson.
What Patterson didn't know at the time is that one of the articles VIA does not allow on their buses are fishing poles. Rules are rules.
Here is the list of the items riders need to avoid taking on the bus.
There is also a code of conduct for riders located on their website.
If riders have any questions about items they can carry on the bus they can always call VIA 362 2020 and if something is driving you crazy just email us at wdyc@ksat.com.
