UTSA band heads to France to perform on anniversary of D-Day

UTSA marching band travels for huge performance

The University of Texas at San Antonio marching band is jetting off to Normandy, France, for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"The Spirit of San Antonio" Marching band will perform on the 70th anniversary of D-Day on Friday.

The band was the only official university band selected to represent the United States at the memorial parade and musical salute.

"It's amazing because for us, it's not just representing the university or the city or a state, we're also representing the United States -- our country -- so it's a really big opportunity for us. It's groundbreaking for the university and we're looking forward to that opportunity," said band member Garrett Duke.

The university is sending 44 band members along with 15 parent chaperones on the trip.

On Friday, they will perform before French national leaders, visiting military leaders, the French president and possibly U.S. President Barack Obama.
