SAN ANTONIO – Child pornography is a growing problem around the world.

Computers, phones and tablets have made our life easier, but they are also putting our children at risk.

"Challenges of catching child porn watchers are that people do it secretly and they can do it from anywhere that connects to the internet," said FBI special agent Osvaldo Alaniz.

The internet has no borders. Alaniz says one picture could be distributed around the world in a matter of minutes.

"Child porn has been a problem lately because children are taking inappropriate pictures on their phones," Alaniz said. "The real problem comes when they send those pictures to others because those pictures can end up anywhere."

According to the FBI, parents can help combat the problem by staying vigilant.

"Parents need to be aware of what their children are doing behind closed doors because once the picture is leaked, the laws have no control of the situation," said Alaniz.

Any person caught sending or child porn through email or phone, even with good intentions, is breaking the law.

"If someone sends you child porn and you send it to someone else then you become guilty of distribution. If you receive it, you need to contact the authorities immediately and they'll try to find who sent it," Alaniz said.
