Benefit held to replace boy's stolen stolen wheelchair

SAN ANTONIO – The community came together Sunday to help a young boy suffering from cerebral palsy.

Nine-year-old Erik Miller's wheelchair was taken from outside his home just over two weeks ago. It was returned but had been damaged beyond repair.

Bexar Management along with other nonprofit groups put on a benefit to raise money for a new chair.

Erik is being raised by his grandparents who live in housing through the county.

"The family is in one of our programs. So part of our approach is to help them in any area they are needing. The family can't afford to purchase this wheelchair on their own, so as one of our residents in our programs, it made sense to help them out," said Norma Jean Huerta of Bexar Management.

Sunday's event featured games, face painting, live music and more.

The group hopes to raise $10,000 for a new chair, which Erik has already been fitted for.
