Family, community honor fallen San Antonio boxer

Event marks 10-year anniversary of Robert Pikin Quiroga's death

SAN ANTONIO – It has been 10 years since the death of Robert Pikin Quiroga.

His friends and family came together Saturday to remember the boxer with a motorcycle parade from Woodlawn Lake to Market Square in downtown.

Following the parade, local boxing clubs showed off some of their training techniques.

Organizers also held an anti-bullying pep rally with students from Stevens and Holmes high schools.

"Robert Pikin Quiroga was the first world champion from San Antonio and it is bittersweet to see all his friends, community leaders, all types of different people come out and still remember what a great man he was," said Rosa Quiroga De La Rosa, Robert Quiroga's sister.

Organizers said they are celebrating the boxer's life in conjunction with the Mexican Independence Day.
