City yet to complete exposed street grates

Bicyclists should remain aware of exposed street grates on East Grayson and Broadway

SAN ANTONIO

Street grates on East Grayson and Broadway remain exposed despite the city's confirmation that they were fixed.

Last week KSAT reported how exposed street grates caused bicyclists tires to get stuck between the spaces resulting in serious accidents.

The city emailed us a picture of a grate on Broadway near East Grayson confirming metal strips were laid down to prevent bike tires from going through.

But when KSAT went to East Grayson, the street grate that runs across the road still remains exposed.

Some metal strips were on some of the sections of the grate while other portions remain uncovered.

A city spokesperson says they will examine the site.

UPDATE:

According to the city, strips have been placed on drainage grates at Broadway and East Grayson to prevent bike tires from slipping through the cracks.

Officials said after this story orginally aired the strips were installed but were damaged shortly after by traffic.

The strips have since been rewelded and are now intact as of Sept. 19.
