Demolition gives way to new Wheatley Courts development

SAN ANTONIO – A public housing site on the city's East Side is being demolished to make way for a revitalized neighborhood.

The demolition started Thursday morning at Wheatley Courts in the 900 block of N. Mittman Street.

It's being re-developed into 417 new mixed-income units wth the help of a $30 million choice neighborhood grant.

The Wheatley transformation plan involves creating a viable and sustainable neighborhood with quality housing, education, employment, health care, and economic development opportunities.
