SAN ANTONIO – An Edison High School student was arrested Monday afternoon on sexual assault charges.
Football player David Sanchez, 18, is accused of attempting to sexually assault a fellow teammate
San Antonio ISD spokeswoman Leslie Price said the incident was nothing more than horseplay, but authorities are calling it sexual assault.
"From what we understand after football there was an incident that started out as horseplay but quickly got out of hand and as a result we brought in our police department to investigate and we did make an arrest," said Price.
Price said the alleged assault occurred last week in the mens locker room and involved two football players, Sanchez and the victim.
The incident has been described to KSAT News as a possible hazing situation but Price said the district objects to that possibility.
In a written statement, the district said:
"We take very seriously the safety and well-being of every student and want to stress that our culture at Edison one of mutual respect, among the students, faculty and staff."
Sanchez faces a third degree felony charge if convicted.
Police are still investigating this case. It is unknown whether more students will be charged.
KSAT will have more information on this case as it becomes available.
