Family of woman killed in apparent murder-suicide welcomes baby

Michelle Hensel apparently killed by boyfriend, John Regalado

SAN ANTONIO – Moments of happiness from the birth of a child have been a stark contrast to what has been a week of tragedy for one South Side family.

Fritz Hensel became a great-grandfather but also lost his daughter, Michelle Hensel, in an apparent murder-suicide.

Police were called to the home in the 200 block of Ada Street around 9:30 p.m. last Monday.

They say Michelle Hensel was shot in the head by her boyfriend, 43-year-old John Regalado.

Regalado then turned the gun on himself, all while Michelle Hensel's daughter was inside the home.

"She heard her mom calling out, she ran into the room and the first thing she saw was him on the floor with a hole in his head and immediately she called 911 and tried to help her mom," said Fritz Hensel.

Michelle Hensel had been on life support since the shooting before she died Sunday morning. She would never get to meet her grandchild, Gizelle Michelle Munoz, born Christmas morning.

Fritz Hensel says he finds comfort knowing his daughter touched so many lives.

"I spent the week at the hospital, obviously, and there was so many people there they had to call hospital security because it was getting to be a security issue," said Fritz Hensel.

He also had a message about domestic violence.

"I hope people realize that domestic violence affects more than just the people that are involved. It touches families, friends, it's just wide spread. There's no end to it," Fritz Hensel said.
