SA man dies 9 months after being shot

Medical examiner rules death of David Koah a homicide

SAN ANTONIO – A shooting victim passed away Thursday nine months after he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. David Koah was shot last March and had been in the hospital since.

"He had a big heart," said Tammy Davis, Koah's mother. "He was a good kid. He did things his own way."

Koah was shot at the Villas at Ventana Apartment Complex in the 2100 block of Northeast Loop 410 on March 29, 2014. He was paralyzed by the shooting.

"I want to know why he had to go through this," said Davis. "I just want somebody to be held responsible."

Witnesses told police they saw two men leaving the scene, but no arrests have been made in the case.

"I'm trying to get somebody to find out who did this," said Davis. "It was in the middle of the day. I could understand if it was at midnight and nobody knows, but it was in the middle of the day in a complex. Somebody had to have (seen something). I know people were there."

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Koah's death a homicide, citing complications of cervical spinal cord injury due to a remote gunshot wound.

Davis said he was visiting a friend at the complex that day, but nobody has come forward with information on the shooting.

Anyone with information about the March shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
