SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County celebrated the completion of a flood control project Wednesday that is said to help South Side residents.
The VFW Flood Control Project cost the city nearly $8.5 million but will help reduce flooding at the intersection of VFW Boulevard and Roosevelt Avenue.
County Judge Nelson Wolff, County Commissioner Chico Rodriguez and Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran were there to celebrate the completion of the project.
"This was a partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation," said Renee Green, Bexar County director of public works. "We worked on the intersection, they continued working on expanding Roosevelt Road so that we will have (a) safe traveling corridor for this entire area."
The project also includes sidewalks and bike lanes along VFW Boulevard from Roosevelt to the San Antonio River.
The project was part of the county's 10-year, $500 million flood control program that was initiated in 2007.
