City of San Antonio to host free landfill day Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – The city of San Antonio will hold its next free landfill day event Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

San Antonio residents who need to dispose of unwanted items such as broken furniture, worn out mattresses or other bulky items with some exceptions should bring a recent copy of their CPS Energy utility bill showing the solid waste fee along with a picture ID to enter the landfills and other participating locations. Officials said no contractor, commercial, industrial or hazardous waste is allowed.

The Solid Waste Management Department also encouraged residents to recycle any brush they may have at one of the brush recycling centers.

Locations taking part in the event are:

  • Republic Services Landfill, 7000 IH-10 East
  • Waste Management Landfill, 8611 Covel Rd.
  • TDS Transfer Station, 11601 Starcrest Rd. (bulky items only)
  • Southside Drop-off Center, 5450 Castroville Rd. (bulky items only)
  • Bitters Bulky Waste Collection Center, 1800 E Bitters (bulky items only)
  • Frio City Road Bulky Waste Collection Center, 1531 Frio City Rd. (bulky items only)
  • Culebra Road Bulky Waste Collection Center, 7030 Culebra Rd. (bulky items only)
  • Rigsby Bulky Waste Collection Center, 2755 Rigsby Rd. (bulky items only)

For brush material only, residents can visit the following locations:

  • Bitters Brush Recycling Center, 1800 Bitters Rd.
  • Nelson Gardens Brush Recycling Center, 8963 Nelson Rd.
