Bullying not ruled out in Seguin student's suicide

Senior Isaac Herrera dies from gunshot wound

SEGUIN, Texas – Though students arrived at Sequin High School for classes as usual Monday morning, school officials said it was anything but a normal day on campus.

"There's a pall over Seguin High School this morning," said school spokesman Sean Hoffmann.

He said that the school's staff had been busy over the weekend dealing with the Friday morning death of senior Isaac Herrera, the son of a Seguin police officer, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Our high school staff met yesterday to finalize plans for a counseling response team, which is on campus today," Hoffmann said.

While counselors deal with grieving students, school officials are investigating Friday's tragic incident.

"We'll work with the Seguin Police Department as they conduct their investigation into this," Hoffmann said.

Among the things investigators are looking at is whether bullying was a factor.

Hoffmann said, "We can't pin it on bullying as we look at it more, but it is always possible and we would never rule that out."

The Seguin Police Department would not comment on the case aside from expressing sympathy for the family of the victim.
