Teacher facing indecency with child charges surrenders

Leonardo Ramos, 39, taught at Athlos Leadership Academy

SAN ANTONIO – A man identified as a teacher at a local public charter school has been charged with indecency with a child.

Leonardo Ramos, 39, turned himself in to Bexar County sheriff's officials Thursday morning, though charges against him were filed in October.

BCSO investigators said Ramos has been a teacher at the Athlos Leadership Academy public charter school operated by the Jubilee Academic Center since 2012. Jubilee Academic Center Superintendent Daniel Amador said Ramos taught 7th and 8th grade before resigning Monday.

Sheriff's spokesman James Keith could not confirm that the alleged victim, a girl under the age of 17, had been a student there.

"But obviously, any time you have a situation where you have a teacher who's accused of this kind of behavior with a child, it's going to raise some red flags," Keith said.

Amador issued the following statement Thursday afternoon:

"Today, we were notified that Leonardo Ramos III, a former seventh grade teacher at Jubilee Academic Center's Athlos Leadership Academy, was arrested by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Ramos was employed with the district from 2012 until April 20, 2015. Jubilee Academic Center places the safety and security of our students as its highest priority in accordance with state law. We are currently looking into this matter and have no further information available at this time."
