Family of man murdered in 2013 gathers on his birthday

Sean Robert Cannon shot dead in October 2013

SAN ANTONIO – On a rainy Saturday afternoon, family members and close friends gathered on what would have been Sean Robert Cannon's 31st birthday.

"He was a kind and loving soul," said his mother, Josefina Cannon. "He loved his cousins. He loved his brothers. He loved his family and he will never be forgotten."

To honor Cannon, his family decided to hold a prayer vigil at the corner of Aganier and West Olmos Street where he was shot and killed.

Police said on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, Cannon was headed to a friend's house when someone in a white SUV pulled up to that location and opened fire.

No one has been arrested for his murder.

"Losing your only sibling is a horrible thing," Cannon's sister, Monica Meeker, said. "And I hope if anybody out there knows something that they'll come forward."

Meeker said she knows that finding her brother's killer will not change anything, but she said they can only hope for closure.

"For us, we just woke up one day and Sean was gone," said Meeker. "We didn't get to say goodbye. We didn't get to be there when he took his last breath and that's just very, very hard."

Meeker said there were two people in the SUV, a man and a woman.

The family is hoping that one of the neighbors saw something and they are asking anyone who knows anything about what happened that day to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.

There is a $9,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
