SAN MARCOS, Texas ā The San Marcos resource center is up and running, offering services to those affected by the flooding over Memorial Day weekend.
"Its real nice to see all of San Marcos come together in a time of need and help," said Juan Garza as he picked up cleaning supplies.
Agencies from across the state are offering a range of services at the center.Ā
"When they come here, it's the first positive that's really happened for them. And they've been given different things from different organizations, and short-term and long-term hope. So I think this whole complex is a positive," said Red Cross volunteer Lew Savik.
Flood victims have been able register for a new driver's license, find clean clothes, pick up clean-up kits, shovels, water and even get a warm hug.
"For me, there are moments when there's just a human connection, and I have nothing that I can say and they maybe have nothing to say. I just instinctively care, and put my arms around the person because it feels like that's all I can do," said Red Cross volunteer Adriana Casso.
The resource center will be open again Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hays County had another resource center open in WimberleyĀ earlier in the week.
