SAN ANTONIO – With Independence Day celebrations 10 days away, KSAT 12 wants to help your family honor the day in a fun way.
KSAT is sponsoring the Leon Valley Fourth of July Spectacular at Raymond Rimkus Park, 6440 Evers Road.
Organizers are expecting thousands to attend the free, family-friendly event.
"Last year we had about 10,000-plus people out here, said Elizabeth Carol, director of community development for the city of Leon Valley. "We have a number of food booths, craft booths, food trucks -- just a whole array of fun things to do."
Organizers are promising exciting twists this year, with lots of activities geared toward children.
"We have a Selena impersonator, we have some dog performers, we have princesses, (who) you can learn how to be a princess with," Carol said.
The day will kick off with a 5K Firecracker Run and a 15-minute fireworks show will end the Fourth of July with a bang!
"If you can possibly carpool, or if you're even close enough where you can walk, we encourage you to do that just because of the limited area of parking," Leon Valley Mayor Chris Riley said.
With all the recent rain, organizers are not worried about any possible fireworks restrictions. Organizers said they've already met with the fire chief and got a green light to go ahead with the display.
