6-inch pipe bursts, spews water 20 feet into air

SAWS says repairs should be finished Thursday night

SAN ANTONIO – A water main break on the city's South Side kept San Antonio Water System crews busy Thursday.

SAWS said the 6-inch pipe burst at about 5 p.m., causing water to spew about 20 feet into the air and over power lines.

Crews used a front-end loader to stop the spray, and police closed off the southbound lanes of Commercial Avenue at Sharmain Place.

A SAWS spokesperson said the repairs should be completed sometime Thursday night.
