Luxury apartment residents upset after 14 cars broken into, 1 stolen

PURE View at TPC hit by rash of break-ins overnight Monday

SAN ANTONIO – Several residents of a North Side apartment complex woke up to find their vehicles broken into Monday morning and one resident's car stolen.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, more than a dozen vehicles were targeted at the PURE View at TPC apartments in the 4000 block of TPC Parkway.

Michael Collins is the owner of the car that was stolen. He said his 2015 Audi A4 was not where he left it Sunday night.

"I looked for my vehicle where I thought I had parked it last night and immediately noticed it wasn't there," Collins said.

About the same time Collins was looking for his car, he got a call from his fiancee who told him her car had been broken into.

"She told me her car had been ransacked," Collins said.

Collins quickly realized he wasn't the only one to have his car burglarized or stolen. According to the Sheriff's Office, a total of 14 cars were damaged or burglarized at the complex. Some had obvious signs of damage and others were apparently left unlocked, according to investigators.

A resident who didn't want to be identified said her car was broken into, but she couldn't find anything missing.

"They just broke into my glove compartment. All the paperwork was out," the resident said. "I'm kind of scared. I might be looking (for) somewhere else to live."

Residents said they've heard other stories of car burglaries in recent months at the gated community.

According to BCSO, deputies also investigated six car burglaries at the complex between December and January.

Collins said he's upset with the response from the property management.

"There's been 14 incidents in a 24-hour period and there's been no communication, no phone calls, no emails, no nothing," Collins said. "The people in the office that were certainly aware of what was going on, due to the fact there was a half dozen (deputies) here, didn't offer condolences or an apology."

KSAT 12 News contacted the property managers, who said they just took over management of the complex last week after a change in ownership.

The on-site managers said they couldn't talk and referred KSAT 12 News to their corporate office. A message was left to find out how they're responding to the crimes but as of Monday afternoon, no one had called back.

Collins said after less than a year of living at the complex, he's had enough and wants out of his lease.

"I immediately want out of here," Collins said. "Having lived in numerous large cities around the country and around the world, I've never felt as unsafe here in San Antonio as I did in London, New York, Seattle, the list goes on. I'll be seeking every means possible to exit the complex as it's just simply not tenable."
