Reward offered to find man convicted of murder

AUSTIN – Authorities are searching for a man convicted of murder who is wanted for escape and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said it has added Jose Fernando Bustos-Diaz, 27, to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. A cash reward up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

In 2006, Bustos-Diaz pleaded guilty to a murder he committed in 2005 while working as a ranch hand in Harris County, authorities said. He was sentenced to 35 years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison.

Bustos-Diaz escaped April 6, 2010, from the TDCJ Briscoe Unit in Dilley, which is 70 miles southwest of San Antonio. Authorities said Bustos-Diaz is believed to have fled to Mexico.

Bustos-Diaz is described by authorities as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 195 pounds, has significant acne scaring on his face and birthmarks on his chest. Authorities said he also has multiple tattoos, including a heart with a cross on the webbing of his left hand; the name "Vanessa" with one dot on the inside of his left wrist; and the name "Lizeth" on the inside of his right wrist. Authorities said Bustos-Diaz should be considered armed and dangerous.
