Rosary held for store clerk shot during robbery

Family and friends begin to say goodbyes to Zach Benavidez, 23

SAN ANTONIO – Family and friends began to say their goodbyes on Sunday to a store clerk killed during a robbery attempt.

A rosary was held for Zachary Benavidez, 23, at Mission Park North Funeral Home.

Benavidez was shot and killed Tuesday during a robbery attempt at the convenience store where he worked on Vance Jackson.

A friend of the victim's sister said the loss is hard to comprehend.

"I couldn't think of anything else but Ashley and her family," Emily Gallegos said. "I can't imagine losing my brother or sister for that matter."

The funeral for Benavidez is Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, and the service is open to the public.

Late Friday, San Antonio police made an arrest in the case.

Olanda Taylor, 18, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder.

Police said they are looking for one more suspect who was with Taylor at the time of the robbery.
