Father shoots son in leg on city's East Side

Son attacked father with butcher knife

SAN ANTONIO – A fight between a father and son led to a shooting on the city’s East Side.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Dumoulin Avenue, near South New Braunfels Avenue.

Police said the son attacked his father with a butcher knife. That’s when the dad shot his son in the thigh.

“The mother is here, witnessed the event,” said Sgt. Gary Pelfrey, with the San Antonio Police Department. “It was a heated discussion. It may have to do with another sibling.”

Police are looking into whether the shooting happened in self-defense. The son was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
