1 arrested in West Side home invasion, shooting

3 other suspects wanted for murder of Enrique Gutierrez Sr.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested one suspect involved in a deadly home invasion.

Juan Almendarez, 24, was picked up by police late Saturday night during a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Southeast Military Drive. 

Police issued a warrant for his arrest on Saturday. He is facing a capital murder charge.

On Friday night, Almendarez and three other men entered a home in the 100 block of South San Eduardo Street and demanded money.

Several shots were fired inside the home. Enrique Gutierrez Sr. sustained multiple gunshot wounds and Enrique Gutierrez Jr. was also struck in the hip.

The older Guiterrez ran across the street and later collapsed on a neighbor’s porch. The man later died at University Hospital. Gutierrez Jr. was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.

The San Antonio Police Department’s homicide unit has issued capital murder warrants for Alejandro Almendarez-Hurtado, 19.

Information about the other two suspects has not been released by the SAPD.

Police said the vehicle the suspects were in was a silver Mazda 3 with license plate number STC888.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for any information that leads to the arrests of the suspects.
