Outrage builds after San Antonio mattress company makes Twin Tower commercial

Miracle Mattress airs video advertising 9/11 mattress sale

SAN ANTONIO – Outrage is building after a San Antonio mattress company aired a “Twin Tower sale” video, days before the 15th anniversary of the deadly attack that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The 20 second Miracle Mattress video opens with three people standing in front of two stacks of mattresses.

The advertisement says mattresses will be on sale for the price of a twin mattress. Two men are then “thrown back” into the two stacks of mattresses, causing them to fall over.

At the end of the video, the woman is then heard saying, “We will never forget.”

Jenee Lewis shared the video on the KSAT 12 Facebook page.

She said that she saw the video Thursday morning and that she was angry and disappointed.

"I watched it and it just instantly just struck a nerve," she said. “It really upset me. I felt like people really need to know that this is not okay.”

Lewis is from a military family. Both of her grandfathers served as chief master sergeants in the U.S. Air Force. Her father retired from the U.S. Department of Defense.

"It hurts. That was an attack against her country, and it hurts my heart for the people who perished and the families that had to go through that," Lewis said.

Lewis also said she was upset that company only apologized for offending people but not for making the video.

She also wondered, “At what point does someone not say this is a good idea?”

On Facebook, there were numerous requests to boycott the business.

One person on Facebook said, "Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea from the start? Playing off the worst national tragedy in American history to score customers is low."

Miracle Mattress posted an apology on its Facebook page saying in part:

“To all of those who have seen our 9/11 sale. We are very sorry we have offended you. Our intentions were not to hurt anyone at all.”

The owner of Miracle Mattress has posted an official apology letter in our timeline above. We will leave the comments...

"Timing is pretty bad. We're coming up on the 15th anniversary, and they think it’s funny," Lewis said.

The company has since taken down the video, but has been viewer more than 25,000 times on Lewis's Facebook page.

KSAT 12 News attempted numerous calls to the company, but no one answered the phone. We also visited their business location off of Northwest Loop 410, but its doors were locked and no one was seen inside.
