KERRVILLE, Texas – The mayor of Kerrville said she was shocked when she got the news that a sitting councilman and his wife were found shot to death Saturday night. Police in the Hill Country town 60 miles northwest of San Antonio said they are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.
City Manager Todd Parton called Mayor Bonnie White and informed her that Gary Stork and his wife, Peggy, were dead.
“It is Councilman Stark and Peggy,” White recalled of her conversation with Parton. “I said what happened? And he said ‘They are dead.’”
A neighbor told police they had tried to reach the couple by phone and had no luck.
The mayor said she was aware that Stork was being investigated on a charge of indecency with a child and she knew the case was to go before the grand jury Tuesday. Police said the initial investigation shows the pair had been dead for nearly 24 hours.
Parton said his first duty was to notify the rest of the council.
The Storks were active in the community. They bought and refurbished homes, the mayor said.
White said there will be a special appointment to fill Stork’s seat. Then there will be a special election next May.
An autopsy will be performed on the pair.
