$200,000 settlement for family in car accident involving Mayor Taylor

Accident occurred in April 2015

SAN ANTONIO – The city of San Antonio has agreed to a $200,000 settlement to a family for damages caused during a crash involving Mayor Ivy Taylor.

The wreck occurred on April 18, 2015, as the mayor was riding in a city-owned vehicle on the East Side.

A San Antonio police officer was behind the wheel when the crash occurred. There had been conflicting accounts as to which vehicle had the right-of-way.

A homeowner’s security camera captured the impact, but did not show who had the green light. Using the video from a VIA bus, the Police Department later said the officer did not run a red light.

Multiple people in the other car were injured, including Tomekia Baldwin, who suffered permanent brain damage according to a lawsuit filed against the city less than two weeks after the crash.

Neither the city of San Antonio nor Taylor commented on the settlement because there is still a lawsuit pending with another person involved in the accident.
