4-6 suspects wanted for fatal 1986 drive-by shooting
Gregory Smith, LaFrant Tyrone James killed on West side street
SAN ANTONIO – "Hey, Brothers!" might normally be a friendly greeting. For two men, it was followed by gunshots that left them dead.
Gregory Smith and LaFrant Tyrone James had left a party just after 1:30 a.m. Aug. 2, 1986. They were walking in the 200 block of South Acme when a car drove up.
San Antonio police said there were four to six Hispanic males inside. Someone called out, "Hey, brothers!" before four shots were fired from the passenger side of the car by a suspect who was sitting on the windowsill.
James 22, died at the scene. Smith died later at Wilford Hall Hospital. Photos of the victims were not available.
Police said the suspects left in a 1972-1973 green LeMans or Monte Carlo.
SAPD's Cold Case Squad is still investigating the double murder.
