Drive-by shooting victim may have been case of 'mistaken identity'

SAPD: Augustin Sendejo possibly not intended target

SAN ANTONIO – Augustine Sendejo was standing on a Southside street when someone drove by and fired a single shot and killed him -- a crime San Antonio police said could be a case of mistaken identity.

It happened on March 21, 1995.

Sendejo was on the 1300 block of San Rafael Street just after 8 p.m. when an SUV drove by and someone shot him. Sendejo died in the middle of the street.

"During the investigation, it was learned that friends of Augustine Sendejo had been involved in a run-in with some gang members earlier that evening. Gunshots had been exchanged, but no one was hit," police said. "There is a possibility that Sendejo was mistaken for someone involved in the earlier shooting and was not the intended target."

SAPD's Cold Case Squad is investigating the crime. If you have any information, call 210-207-7635.
