Shell casings, gun tie suspect to December murder

Wyatt Rushing, 20, accused of killing 19-year-old man

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said new evidence has linked a 20-year-old man to a December murder.

Police arrested Wyatt Rushing on Monday in connection with the the shooting death of Michael Moriarty, 19.

A jogger found Moriarty's body Dec. 18 in the 500 block of Devine Road. Police also found ten shell casings near his body, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The affidavit said that Rushing was arrested in February on drug and weapons charges. Police said he was in possession of a stolen gun at that time.

According to the affidavit, police later had the gun tested and the results showed the shell casings from the murder scene were fired by that weapon.

Police said they also had other evidence, including a partial license plate and messages between the victim and suspect, which linked Rushing to the crime.
