Homeowner shoots pantless intruder, holds him for police

Shooting occurred around 3 a.m. in 4100 block of Cliff Oaks

SAN ANTONIO – A man who reportedly was dressed in his underwear and trespassed in a homeowner's backyard is being treated in a hospital for a gunshot wound.

San Antonio police said the homeowner shot the intruder when he caught him in his yard just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The homeowner held the intruder at gunpoint until officers arrived, police said.

According to officers at the scene, the homeowner said he heard a noise outside his home in the 4100 block of Cliff Oaks, then saw the man scaling his backyard fence.

He fired at least one shot at the intruder wounding him in the leg, police said.

The homeowner told police the wounded man then climbed another fence leading to a neighbor's home. He said he stopped the suspect and forced him to lie on the ground at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Police said the wounded man was dressed in his underwear and may suffer from mental issues. He was taken to a hospital.

They said the suspect lives not far from the tiny gated community in an apartment off Fredericksburg Road.
