Babysitter arrested after hurting 4-month-old child, affidavit says

Tomasa Guerra, 31, is charged with injury to a child

SAN ANTONIO – A babysitter is in jail after hurting the child she was supposed to be caring for, an arrest warrant affidavit says.

31-year-old Tomasa Guerra is charged with injury to a child.

According to police, Guerra was babysitting the four-month-old child when he was injured last month.

The affidavit said she told police at first that the infant rolled off the couch, but doctors did not buy her story. Doctors say they baby's injuries appear to have come from being shaken violently and possibly hit in the head.

Police said Guerra gave different stories before eventually admitting to shaking the baby. She said she did it however in a playful way rather than out of anger.

The baby suffered a severe brain injury, the affidavit said.
