San Antonio is one of the most mosquito infested cities

San Antonio ranks number three out of 20 cities

SAN ANTONIO – It's that time of the year for mosquitoes, and after recent rains, residents can expect them to come out in full force.

Terminix released its ranking for the 20 most mosquito infested cities across the country on Thursday, and San Antonio came in at No. 3.

Cities in Texas took the top three spots with Dallas at No. 1 and Houston at No. 2.

In the past years, viruses like Zika and West Nile disease have hit areas of the U.S. hard.

In the announcement, Terminix said that homeowners can help drastically to reduce the presence of mosquitoes.

"We want summer enthusiasts to know they don't need to tolerate these pests -- there are options to beat the buzz and help keep mosquitoes out of your summer plans," Paul Curtis, director of technical and regulatory services with Terminix said.

Here are some tips:

1. Remove sources of standing water.

2. Clean out the gutters.

3. Change water sources weekly.

4. Replace outdoor lighting.

5. Seal and screen entry points.
