Girl who prays with SAPD officers took photo with fallen officer two months before his death

‘You can never have too much prayer in your life,' girl says

SAN ANTONIO – A photo of a young girl praying with San Antonio police officers has received nationwide attention with many comments on Facebook thanking the 8-year-old Paige for her random act of kindness.

But just two months before that special prayer was seen on Wednesday night, Paige shared a special moment with fallen SAPD Officer Miguel Moreno when he stopped to talk to her and her siblings during his shift on May 1, 2017.

“It’s not every day you get to meet a real police officer,” Paige said. “I told him (Moreno) just to be safe because you can never have too much prayer in your life.”

KSAT.com reached out to Paige’s mom, Kat Garcia, on Friday when the photo of her daughter seen praying with SAPD officers at Luby’s downtown San Antonio went viral on social media.

Garcia later shared images of her daughter with KSAT.com after saying this was not the first time Paige has prayed for officers and others who she feels need it the most.

Of the 15 photos shared with KSAT.com, one of the images shows Officer Moreno posing with three kids: Paige, Paige’s 4-year-old sister Emma and her 4-year-old cousin Kevin.

Garcia said she was visiting her mother who lives near Edison High School at the time and saw Moreno get out of his patrol vehicle to only join the kids in playing with the ball they were tossing to each other.

“He was a great guy (and) for him to stop like that and for him to play with the kids, it says a lot about him,” Garcia said.

After learning her two daughters and nephew took a photo with fallen SAPD Officer Moreno just two months before his death, Garcia said San Antonio lost a “good police officer.”

“It makes me sad, it makes me sad because me knowing him for the five minutes that he took out of his time just to spend with my kids and my nephew, it says a lot about him,” Garcia said.

In a time when SAPD needs more prayer than ever after losing two of their own within seven months, Garcia said her daughter Paige is going to be right by their side praying for them.
