SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department and the Boys and Girls Club are teaming up to help build positive relationships with children in the community.

The "Life Skills Academy," a nine-week program, focuses on teaching kids ages 9 to 12 to make responsible decisions, build good character and say no to drugs.

"(It) helps to build partnership between community, police department, and especially seeing a big smile on kids' faces when they interact with the police," Capt. Adolph Zuniga said. "That brings a smile to us, knowing that we're making a difference in the community."

Officers said they want to show the kids that even though they wear a uniform, they are just approachable, regular people.
