Family believes father of 2 who was fatally shot was targeted

SAN ANTONIO – Family members of a man who was shot and killed while driving on the Northeast side of town Saturday morning are desperate for answers, as they believe their loved one was targeted.

“He was a great man,” said a family member. “He was a great father. He was a hard worker. We are going to miss him a lot.”

Those family members, who asked not to be identified, said it was their loved one, Angel Aztiazarain, 25, from Somerset, Texas.

“We first heard about it when the cops showed up at our house with pictures,” said one of his family members. “The job called and said he was a no call, no show. We were wondering what happened to him. We were panicking. He never showed up, and the cops showed and told us he was gone.”

Police said Aztiazarain was driving when someone shot him, causing him to lose control and hit a tree. The family said they feel like Aztiazarain was targeted.

“Somebody made him go over there,” said the family member. “We have no family over there. We don’t have any reason to be over there.”

Their main concern is for Aztiazarain’s two little girls.

“He has a 7-year-old and a 3-year-old,” said the family member. “His wife passed away from cancer. His kids, man. They needed him. Somebody took his life.”

Now they want answers.

“The person who did this was a coward, and we can’t have him back,” said the family member. “You took a father, a brother, a nephew. You took somebody’s life. You need to pay the price. Turn yourself in.”

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest in this case, you are asked to call the San Antonio Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 210-207-7635.
