Man critically wounded in shooting outside NE Side home

Man shot 3 times in stomach in 4000 block of Coral Sunrise

SAN ANTONIO – A 37-year-old man was shot three times outside a home on the city's Northeast Side, police said.

"It sounded like about six gunshots. I didn't think they were gunshots, but my roommate had woken me up because I had gone back to sleep at that point," said Brian Rial, a neighbor.

Police were called just before midnight Tuesday to a home in the 4000 block of Coral Sunrise.

According to police, officers found the victim with three gunshots to the lower abdomen. Investigators said the victim was not very talkative but did give a name to police.

"I talked to him when I was working on the fence. He's friendly," Rial said of the victim, who was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

Coral Sunrise was also the scene of deadly drive-by shooting earlier this month.

A 34-year-old woman was hit in the stomach and died. Police arrested 25-year-old Tyrend White in connection with the murder.

"We have talked to the detectives and homicide, and their telling us that based on their preliminary investigation, that it doesn't seem that the incidents that have happened over the past couple of weeks are related to one another," said SAPD spokesman Officer Carlos Ortiz.

So far no arrests have been made in Tuesday nights' case.
