16-year-old boy dies after being chased down, shot on South Side

Christian Jimenez Santos died Sunday

SAN ANTONIO – A teen who was chased down and shot in the head Wednesday morning on the South Side has died, the medical examiner confirmed.

Christian Jimenez Santos, 16, died after being shot in the head.

According to a San Antonio police report, officers found Christian lying face-down with a gunshot wound around 11 a.m. in the 1300 block of Vermont Street.

A witness at the scene told police the victim was chased by two suspects prior to hearing gunshots, the report said.

He was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center but died Sunday morning.

Cora Castro, who was raised in the neighborhood, said the shooting doesn't surprise her.

"There's a lot of drugs around here, especially these two blocks, nothing but drugs," she said Wednesday. "Friday, Saturday, you hear nothing but gunshots around here. Every weekend. It is scary because it's just close-by from where we live at. I don't let my grandkids out because especially now that it gets dark really early."

The suspects remain at large.
