SAN ANTONIO – Attention walkers, runners and cyclists, a new stretch of the Mission Reach Trails has opened.
Bexar County officials and dignitaries welcomed Bexar County's newest park during a grand opening Tuesday.
The park is set among the ruins of the former Hot Wells Hot Sulfur Springs and Hotel, which complements the Mission Reach Trails and the state's only UNESCO World Heritage site, the San Antonio Missions.
The hotel may be gone and the well has been capped, but visitors can now stroll through the historic grounds and experience the park.
"Now we've restored and stabilized all the ruins that are here. They were all crumbling down. You'll be able to walk around it and see the baths on the backside. Men on one side, women on the other side, children in the middle. You're going to be able to see where they also did filming out here," said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.
Star Film shot a lot of silent movies at the location, and the park plans on bringing some of them to light and actually having special showings.
