Video shows Texas officer fatally shoot woman during altercation

Woman told officer she was pregnant before taking his Taser

BAYTOWN, Texas – An officer's attempt to arrest a woman on an outstanding warrant in Baytown, just east of Houston, turned deadly Monday night.

The woman, whom family members identified as Pamela Turner, resisted arrest so the officer used his Taser gun.

The officer didn't open fire until after Turner, 44, grabbed his Taser and shocked him in the groin, according to The Associated Press.

Lt. Steve Dorris, with the Baytown Police Department, told KPRC, "During the course of the attempted arrest, the female began struggling with the officer, which forced the officer to deploy his Taser. That deployment was not effective, and the female was able to get the officer's Taser away from him. (She) actually tased the officer, which forced the officer to draw his duty weapon and fire multiple rounds at the suspect."

The incident was caught on video by witnesses, who then posted the video on social media.

“She said, ‘Get off of me. I’m pregnant,’ and (then) he turned around and stung her," Lisa Carr told KPRC.

Carr said she lives several apartments down from where the incident took place and that she witnessed the shooting.

"She took (the Taser) from him and shot him. And that’s when you turn around and he say, ‘Bam, bam, bam,’ and just shot her like that," Carr said.

According to court records, Turner had three outstanding warrants -- two for criminal mischief and one for assault resulting in bodily injury.

Turner's sister told KPRC that Turner was on medication for schizophrenia and that she had two children and three grandchildren.

Family members couldn't confirm whether Turner was pregnant.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, and an autopsy will confirm whether Turner was pregnant.
